My Time Out

Not to brag, but I did my part of the Time Out For Mom Challenge on Monday. Go here to learn more about the Time Out For Mom Challenge and the Stella & Dot prizes you can win! It’s such a simple but fun challenge. It was my birthday (picture of me eager to go shopping on my birthday). I had arranged with Nathan, the hubby, to watch the kids in the morning while I went out shopping. Alone. Nothing fancy, but I did get shoes, new sunglasses and three tops. I was gone for three hours. Awesome. It was nice shopping without having to chase after kids, pack a bag full of snacks and put back everything the kids put in the cart that we didn’t need. I drove around in the car blasting my music rather than Disney princess songs. I went to four stores and took my time at each of them.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know that I love shoes. Always been a shoe person. So I went out and got three pairs. All three for $40.30 (not including tax). Major savings that I couldn’t turn down. I ended up changing my mind on the Vera Wang pair because it didn’t fit right on me. And my rule for shoe is I have to really love it to buy it, even if it means paying more. Now that my shoe size doesn’t change any more, I keep my shoes for a long time. In fact, I just recently gotten rid of a pair I had since high school.

When I got home, the kids and Nathan were happy to see me back. What a great feeling to come home and feel appreciated and loved. Elle, of course, wanted to try on all my new shoes and sunglasses. Elle is a shoe girl like her mom. Nathan had the girls make cupcakes for my birthday. Kaye drew me a birthday card. Aww. They were all so sweet to me on my birthday.

I’m convinced I should do this more often. More than once a year.

Happy Birthday! I get plenty of time alone, now that my kids are teens (why would they ever want to hang out with mom?). But my time alone generally is still oriented towards taking care of them or thinking about taking care of them. Sigh. Thankfully, I have a great spouse who is fine with me going to visit my sister for a few days at a time. That’s my time out.
