Shannon of Luvinthemommyhood is expecting her second child. How exciting! And she was kind enough to do a guest post even though her due date is quickly approaching. She is here to share with us some DIY and tutorials for making baby items you’ll need when that little one arrives. Perfect for the nesting mood. And make sure you hop over to see Shannon’s blog Luvinthemommyhood that just celebrated it’s first birthday! This is Shannon who simply said…

When I became a first time mom people and advertisements bombarded me with all the things I needed to be a parent. Gadget after gadget, gizmo after gizmo and expensive item after expensive item. I learned the hard way and ended up purchasing a few things that got sold a few months after purchasing them. Why did I sell them? I just didn’t need them.

Now after experiencing babyhood and being pregnant with my second child things are a lot different. There really are only a very simple amount of things you need for an infant and a lot of them can be made all by yourself. They can even be refashioned from other items you already have in your home. And who doesn’t like to save some money right? Put it towards their education fund instead of a $1,000 chair to sit in for 6 months of their life.

When Tiffany mentioned to me about the Simply Said series I knew I had to compile a roundup of my “must make baby items.” You don’t have to make these, but they are the things that come in the most handy and are the easiest and simplest to sew. So crack out the machine and get creating… I’m right along beside you with my swollen belly and feet.

Happy stitching!

Thanks so much for including my contoured changing pad cover! I’ll definately be making some of those hats you included too so thanks for the great list of baby gear 🙂 To answer your question, with newborns I love to make and use carseat canopies especially in the winter. They’re easy and so helpful!

    Thanks again.
