You Can Relate, Right?

I know we all say it. You’re probably tired of hearing people complain about it. And it’s a curse of motherhood. All of a sudden, 24 hours is not enough time to do everything. Especially this time of year. April and May are busy months for us. Both Nathan and I have birthdays, our anniversary, Mother’s Day and his graduation. Although technically he doesn’t finish school until August. But he will be walking in May. No graduation ceremony in August. Other things that has been happening around here that you can probably relate to…

My girls refuse to let me keep a clean house. I keep trying to clean up after them and it doesn’t work. Especially Elle. She refuses to let books stay on bookshelves. Enjoys dripping water out of her cup to make puddles so she can splash in it with her  hands or feet. And the other day during quiet time Kaye decided to have some fun with her lip gloss. She’s 3. When I asked her why she kissed the wall with lip gloss she answered, “Because I like kissing.” Nathan didn’t think that was funny.

Nathan won an iPad. Ridiculous, right? From Barns and Noble at his school. They were having a giveaway for those who made a purchase within a certain time. He bought Sour Patch Kids for $1.76. And with that, he won an iPad. I am now a widow thanks to Apple. Nathan has been talking about the iPad since before it was a rumor. He’s an avid Apple fan. That’s putting it lightly. My friend Mary referred this episode of Modern Family to me and I laughed. That is so my husband.

I am starting to exercise. P90X. And I’m making Nathan do it with me. I need to get into summer shape and lose about 10 pounds. If you follow me on Twitter, you might have heard me asking for a cheering section. Exercising is a hard thing for me. Just no motivation to it. Rather be doing something else.

Planning and preparing for a 30th birthday party bash. My lovely Nathan is turning 30 this year. So I’m planning a dinner party for him. We have a few out-of-state friends who will be attending the party and staying with us. It’s going to be good. I will be doing some tutorials relating to this dinner party.

Spring decluttering the entire house. I weeded through every closet and the attic. Got rid of a ton of stuff and reorganized everything. Made trips to Goodwill contributing my donations, including a couch. Now I need to get to the actual cleaning.

A little Simply Modern Mom makeover. At least on the Tutorial and Made pages to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for.

Looking for a bookshelf and ended up with a collection of Polaroids. I am trying to find a waist height bookshelf for the playroom. The hard thing about it is it needs to be about 12-13 inches deep to keep plastic bins filled with toys. I’ve been looking at thrift stores and rather than finding the bookshelf I have been discovering Polaroid cameras. Even better. My last trip to Goodwill I bought this Polaroid Captiva and these gorgeous frames. I will be doing posts with some home decor soon.

» Tell me… Is spring a busy season for you too? What have you been doing lately? Spring cleaning? Enjoying the outdoors?

  1. yes i can relate not the same things going on but many things going on!!!!

  2. Yes, I can relate to so many things! Good for you on the P90X! Hubby and I are doing that as well (though not as consistant as we would like). I love it even though it is so hard.

    • p90x is hard! we’re not doing the meal plans or anything. just the exercise video. we do pretty well eating. we just need to get some fitness into our lives. we can cheer each other on!

  3. Im still in awe over winning the iPad for under $2! Sorry you are an apple widow :( Good luck finding the perfect size bookshelf and everything else that is going on right now! Remember: Busy people are productive people. (probably not what you wanted to hear :D )

  4. Its the yard work that has taken over my life, keeping me busy. Good luck with P90X, I love it!

So glad you liked the episode!! Seriously, this weeks made me laugh harder than I have in forever. I’ve watched it 3 times already – I need as much laughter as I can get!!

ps – I can relate and I love the frames!

    • yes, mary. thanks so much for sending me the link. i’ve never seen modern family before even though it’s been highly recommended to me by friends. i sent the link to nate for him to watch that episode with the ipad and he said he had already seen it. he laughed too knowing that was him. :)

  6. I can TOTALLY relate! I’m in the process of spring cleaning. Just space-bagged the snow gear and winter clothes. An weeding through the closets this week and the carpets are getting cleaned next week. Hurray!

you should just have your grandpa build the shelf for you and then you can paint it to look antique. ;) good luck with everything though. if anyone can do it, you can. :)

Ikea and Target both have inexpensive shelves that are deep enough to hold storage bins. Perfect for children, and not so fancy that you will get upset when they end up with lipgloss kiss marks on them! :)

I can relate, especially with the kids! My 3-year-old son found a crack in the plaster around his window. That crack is now a huge HOLE! Plaster everywhere! :(
My hubby is a geek too. He just got a GPS system for the car, so I’ll be hearing about that for all week… Till it does something he doesn’t like, then I’ll be hearing all about it every day for months.

  10. Wow, you have been busy!
My Nathan and I did P90X together. It was definitely difficult, what with the meal planning and everything. But then we stuck to it 100%. We definitely feel off the exercise wagon after that was over though (and Christmas got in the way, then Thanks Giving and Easter and…) Good luck with it!

  11. I love your blog! I don’t even know how I found it, but it has inspired me to be more ‘creative’ :)
I have a 23 month and 11 month old…needless to say it seems like I’m always cleaning! I struggle when it comes to exercise too…my sister gets married in a little over a month and I have at least 10 pounds to lose! When do you work out? I should probably work out in the mornings while the kids are asleep…but I rather sleep! I need to get motivated though…Good luck!

    • hi claudia! thanks for your kind words about my blog. so glad you have been inspired to be more creative. i exercise at night when the kids are asleep- usually around 9 or 10 p.m. and the p90x is around an hour of workout. i’m not a morning person, so mornings doesn’t work for me. finding time to workout is one of the hardest thing for me. like i said, i would rather be doing something else. but i have all ready lost 3 pounds from just a week of working out. so not too bad.

OMG…too funny about the lipgloss. I read about it last night (secretly thinking thank goodness that has not happend to me)…then today; what happens??? Both my kids got into the lipgloss and had it all over the flat screen TV!!!

    I can definitely relate!!! :-)

  13. P90X is awesome! I did it after I finished nursing both of my babes & the weight just fell off in a few weeks. And even though we don’t do the diet or workout anymore, after my runs I still do ab ripper! :-)

  14. Oh my gosh….the kissy lips on the wall! Well, better than my friend whose daughter was supposed to be napping and painted…well, her diaper contents on the wall and on the bars of her crib. UGH!!!

  15. Tasha

Yes I did…but not before my husband found out! :-)

I can totally relate! I have a 22 month old tornado. We are living temporarily in a < 800 sq. ft. apt while we try to sell our house and relocate permanently. It's amazing how quickly my daughter can trash this place. She just now tall enough to reach the counter tops, so the only safe location is the top of the refrigerator. I am a full time, work from home most days, mom with a 22 month old, a 9 month old, and a head full of grey hair! :) Hang in there!
