Be Out There is a National Wildlife Federation program that encourages children to go outside and explore the natural world around them. I need more of that. My kids need more of that. We all need more of that. Noticing the trend of the youthful generation, less children are going outside to play. There are so many benefits to have them go outside, from their site:
- Daily unstructured free play improves children’s physical and mental health.
- Children who play outside are more physically active, more creative, less aggressive and show better concentration.
- Outdoor experiences and education enhances children’s ability to learn and retain knowledge.
- Outdoor experiences build a conservation ethic and concern for the natural world.
Use their site to find things to do and places to go all around your home. The site is also filled with ideas for outdoor activities – firefly fun, make a sponge garden or a simple recipe for trail mix. Speaking of outdoor recipes, this is a list of food and recipes for cooking over a camp fire. Remember what it was like to play outside again.

This is something I need to do with my kids more! They were unfortunate enough to get a mommy who is delicate in adverse temperatures… OK, I’m just a wimp!
I love it, thanks for letting me know about it!
Great site find! We love to be outside in the water and other messy things. Just letting our little one have a bucket of water and a paint brush. It is the simple things. Sidewalk chalk, walks. Many parents don’t go near paint at home but taking it outside on the side walk on paper or sometimes I put down an old shower curtain, it really is about just getting in it not something that has to be on paper (a few rain storms will wash anything that gets on the pavement).
