We Celebrated the Fourth

Sorry I didn’t get to wish you a happy 4th of July last week. For some reason, I thought I had another week left in June. So when someone informed me otherwise, I felt like I missed a week. Skipped a week. And now, a week behind. Have you ever had that happen to you?

But we did celebrate Independence Day. One of our favorite holidays. Lots of fireworks and even a laser show. Last Friday, we attended a wedding reception for my cousin. So excited for him and his new beginning. The kids got to bed late that night.

And then on Saturday, we had a nice outdoor breakfast at church. Bright and early before the humidity. That evening we joined hundreds of other people in watching the fireworks at Stone Mountain Park. It was spectacular. It lived up to all the hype and more.

We grabbed a family meal on our way out and picnicked at the park. The weather was perfect. Since we arrived at the park two hours prior to the show, we brought entertainment. Nathan was quite popular with the children…

The kids were wonderful considering they didn’t sleep much the previous night. And that night we didn’t return home until 12:30 a.m. Sunday was a little rough, but still not as awful as I thought it would be.

Ever since I purchased Nicole Gerulat’s Photo 101 book, I have been shooting completely in manual. And watching the fireworks at Stone Mountain was my first time shooting at night in manual. In fact, it was manual settings and manual focus. That was exciting for me.

We went to the Mississippi River and sat on the levy for the fireworks show. We were right in front of the barge so we had the best seats. Since we were in town we couldn’t help but have some yummy down home cook’n… Yum!
