Intriguing Sites: The LunchBox

Children’s nutrition has been a hot topic lately and more and more kids in the U.S. are considered obese and on the track to many health problems in their futures. As a mom, I am quite concerned with this. Although I don’t currently have any children in school, I would still like to see changes made in our school systems. Paving a way for Kaye who will be in school next year.

I came across The LunchBox and loved their purpose. Chef Ann Cooper, one of the main advocates who started The LunchBox, believes in the importance of serving healthy lunches in schools as the lunchroom is a place where our children learn how and what to eat.

The LunchBox provides the resources and information you need to get healthy food into schools. You should also check out the recipes for healthy meals to pack in lunch boxes. Watch their Public Service Announcement and see what kind of change they are looking to make in schools.

» What are your thoughts on the food served in the lunchroom at your children’s school? Do you pack lunches for your children? Why?

    1. I love Chef Ann! We have a new food service that makes everything from scratch. I’m excited to see how this year goes with healthier food for our students.

    2. When I was in elementary school the meals were very well rounded. There was a main dish which was either a sandwich, baked potatoes, etc, there was vegetable, a fruit and a dessert. In Jr. High things got bad, they served pizza or rolls with french fries! Gross! In High school it wasn’t much better though they did offer a salad. Of course even if they offered elementary lunches in jr, and high school I am willing to bet that kids wouldn’t eat them. I plan to teach my children about nutrition at home, and I will be sending my kids to school with lunch bags.
