Beach Vacation in North Carolina

Oh. My. Gosh. I feel great after being at the beach all last week. It was some much needed rest and relaxation for our family. And the girls loved it too. It was their favorite vacation next to Disney World.

Two Friday’s ago we began our drive to North Carolina’s coast to spend the entire week with my extended family. It’s something we do each summer. We are beach people so each summer we rent a couple beach houses and turn into beach bums for an entire week. Since all of my extended family live in Georgia with us, we don’t feel the need to visit with each other. We just have fun hanging out at the beach with each other.

That’s the kind of vacation I like – no plans, no schedule, no obligations. Just being around people you love and having fun together. It really was get up each morning and decide what you wanted to do today. And everyone did their own things, mostly hanging out at the beach. But sometimes people went shopping, drove around the island, played at the park or went sightseeing.

The guys did all go in together and rented a surfboard, kayak and a paddle board for the week.

My girls loved the life of a beach bum. We wore them out each day playing in the sand, ocean and going for walks in the evening. We hunted for seashells during the day and crabs at night.

We had the perfect weather all week. Sunny but breezy. A few of the afternoons were a bit too windy to hang out at the beach. That worked out fine for us because it usually happened while the girls were back at the beach house taking naps or resting.

The water was warm enough to jump in but cool enough to be refreshing. We all came home with a nice tan though. Nate and I burned a little, even with SPF 50.

And what’s a beach vacation without beach toys and building forts and castles? That’s what the girls and their cousins spent most of their time doing.

Nathan took Kaye out for a ride on the boogie boards a few times. She enjoyed it until she got salt water in her mouth.

We also received a little visit from a jelly fish and crab.

We also watched some pretty awesome sunsets.

Can’t wait for the next time we get to dig our toes in the sand again. I’ll be doing a few posts this week about summer at the beach this week.

» Tell me… Are you a beach person? Where do you like to vacation in the summers?

Is that the outerbanks? We were looking at places there to rent as well. We have 8 children and decided we need to get away and saw how relaxing it was. It was hard to pick location there since we are not familiar with the area. Do you have a link to place you stayed at or any nearby that? What a huge help that would be! I loved seeing your family in action.

Looks like you had the best time ever! I was an exchange student in my teens in NC. Loved the beaches by cape Hatteras.
Next week I’ll be spending some time with mom, brother, sister and my two boys in San Juan de Alicante SP. Can’t hardly wait!

this will be my first summer not at the east coast beaches in a very long time. At 33 weeks pregnant, I’m stuck local, not allowed to fly anymore…so midwest I am. But we are off to Chicago this weekend. it’s not the beach, and that makes me sad, but next year…..oh I”m so back!!!!! Love me some OBX
