I Still Love Calligraphy

Even though it doesn’t seem like I haven’t been crafting much lately, I have actually been learning and practicing calligraphy. My friend Melissa from ISLY recently came out with her online calligraphy class. I have been waiting forever for her class to release online. So when it did, I eagerly signed up. I still need to practice more. But here are some of the names I have been writing.

Why am I writing names? Well, recently I had bookoos of friends and family who had babies. Baby girls, no less. Like a ton within the last few months. So I thought it would be cute to write their names and send it to them. It also gave me something to write while practicing my calligraphy.

Now, if you are interested in taking Melissa’s online copperplate calligraphy class, you can learn more about it at her site, I Still Love Calligraphy.  I don’t know if you have noticed, but copperplate calligraphy are all the rage lately. People are hiring calligraphers to write menus for dinner parties, create gorgeous cards, write addresses for wedding invitations, baby announcements and just write out inspirational quotes to frame.

Melissa’s online calligraphy class is a go-at-your-own-pace type of class. There are lessons and videos for you to learn from. She has printouts for you to use as guides and practice sheets. You have a month access to all the lesson materials. There are some assignments for you to practice calligraphy. Once done, upload your work to a private gallery for critiques from Melissa.

As you can see, I still need more practice. But I think I finally figured out my own personal style. It’s so fun and I can’t wait to do more with it.

» Tell me… What do you think about calligraphy? Do you think it’s too old school? Where have you seen calligraphy being used lately?

I love calligraphy! I tried teaching myself in high school, and did well…. but once I got to college I didn’t practice anymore. Your post makes me want to pick up the calligraphy pen again!

Your calligraphy is great Tiffany! I really love that it has a kind of ‘naivety’ to it. Appeals to much more than ‘finished’ work. Hope that makes sense 🙂 x

I love calligraphy! I’d dabbled in it as a kid but was never disciplined enough to teach myself, and lately after playing with a nib and ink for the past several months I’m finally taking a class with a local calligrapher (Deb Warnat here in Birmingham AL) and I LOVE it. We’re learning copperplate but when I go home I practice a bit of my own style. Cheers to you for taking a class as well!

Hi. You’re doing great! I’m planning to sign up for the course soon. I’m so excited about it. I’m a little intimidated by the whole nib & ink so I’m hoping there’s a ready-made pen I can use instead. 🙂
